Services for BYU Faculty: Access to Resources

Library Delivery Service

Faculty, administrators, and staff can sign up to have library materials and interlibrary loans delivered and picked up from approved department offices. Departments can sign up to be a library delivery location.

Library Delivery Services will:

  • Deliver Library and Interlibrary Loan items directly to your department office
  • Visit your department office to renew items and pick up items when you have finished using them

To get library materials delivered to your department office, please update your account preferences on this page https://lib.byu.edu/account/preferences. Once completed, place a request for an item in our library or ask to have it sent from another library through Interlibrary Loan.

Borrowing Material

BYU faculty may check out up to 100 items for a period of 26 weeks, and renew items online four times. For more information about borrowing privileges and polices go to http://lib.byu.edu/about/checkout-privileges/.

Check out materials at the General Help Desk on Level 3 or at any Help Desk on each level of the library. There is also a self-checkout machine available on Level 3 next to the General Help Desk. Or have items delivered to your department office.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Request books and articles from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  In most cases you can make the request from the database or catalog you are searching in by clicking on the icon for ILL or "Get it at BYU."   Here's a link to the ILL site https://illiad.lib.byu.edu/illiad/.  Enter your BYU NetID and password when prompted.

Books are typically available for pick up within 5-7 business days.
Articles are typically ready to download within 2-3 business days.

You can also use the ILL function to request articles and book chapters found in items owned by the BYU Library. They will be copied and delivered to you as PDFs via E-mail.

Requesting Library Purchases

The Faculty Expedited Orders Service endeavors to acquire and deliver new books within 10 working days for rush orders. These should be books that the BYU Library does not currently hold and which would enhance university teaching and research efforts. The service is limited to all English language books distributed in the U.S.  To make a request go to the online Faculty Expedited Order form.
