Bloomberg Training Program

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is an 8 hour self-paced e-learning course that provides a visual introduction to capital markets. BMC is recognized world wide, and will signal to prospective employers that you have attained a high level of competency in using the Bloomberg Professional Service as well as optimize job performance. The BMC course consists of 4 modules: Economic Indicators, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities. In order to receive your Acknowledgement of Completion, take and pass, with 75% or better, the Knowledge Check and Section Quiz questions throughout the modules. 

 

Bloomberg Market Concepts

  1. Create your own Bloomberg account. You need to your own in order to become certified.
    • Click on the "Create a New Login" link.
    • Fill in the forms; Choose to receive an automated call using the Library Employee Desk's number (801.422.6228). Alternatively you could choose to receive confirmation via text but you won't have service in the basement of the library. 
    • Some fields may not make sense in a university setting, don't worry about it and just fill something in. When asked if you want a copy of the Bloomberg Magazine, decline the offer! It will just be sent to the library and we already get several.
  2. Familiarize yourself with BMC type BMC into the search bar and hit <GO>.  This is your guide to the Bloomberg Essentials curriculum. In addition,
    • Use BMC <GO> to access online course information and exams.
  3. Summary of Courses.
    • You have the option to certify in Fixed Income, Equity, Foreign Exchange, or Commodities, taking and passing up to 8 classes total (the 4 "Core" courses and then one "Market Sector" course for each certification).
    • To certify, you need to pass the Core exam and one Market Sector exam. (At least 5 videos and 2 exams)
    • Each course consists of an online video running about 30 minutes.
    • You can go beyond the Bloomberg Essentials program by exploring the other training materials on Bloomberg University (BU <GO>)
  4. Course Cheat Sheets
    • For a copy of each course handout go to DOCS <GO> and search using the class code and pick your language.
    • You can find additional cheat sheets at CHEA <GO>.
  5. Exam Requests
    • At the end of the 4 basics videos, click "View and Take Exams" on the Bloomberg Essentials (BMC) screen.
    • A score of 75% or better is required in order to pass each course. You may retake each exam once.
  6. Certification Issuance
    • After completing the vidoes and exams, request your certificate by clicking "Request Your Acknowledgement of Completion" on the Bloomberg Essentials (BMC) screen.
    • Specify which Market Sector(s) you took and provide a mailing address (PO box not accepted).
    • All certificates take approximately 4-6 weeks to receive.
