Critical Edition Score
Critical edition scores have been prepared by scholars who consulted the autograph manuscript score(s) and early editions of the work to create a score that represents most closely the composer's original intent for the work. These scores also often include critical notes to show variants in the original sources or editorial decisions where original sources conflict or are unclear. It is usually best to consult critical editions when analyzing a musical work in-depth.
