WRTG 311 Advanced Writing: Workshop Registration

Registering for a Workshop

As a Writing 311 student, you are invited to attend a library workshop with a subject librarian who has expertise in the subject area of your research topic. Later this semester, you will have an assignment to synthesize research on a topic of your choice. This workshop will teach you how to find the research for that assignment. Workshops are 50 minutes long.

Below are the steps for successfully attending a library workshop for your advanced writing class. Notice the dates for registering, receiving email, and attending.

If you have questions at any time, please contact us at library_instruction@byu.edu.

Step 1: Register

Registration is open between June 26-July 9.  Register for your workshop here. You will then be scheduled with a subject librarian based on the major you select and the available times you indicate.

A NOTE ABOUT YOUR MAJOR: The registration page will ask for your major. You will be assigned a subject librarian based on which major you select in the dropdown menu. Before you do so, consider the following:

  1. If your paper topic and your declared major are in the same field of study, select your declared major.
  2. If your paper topic and your major are in different fields, and you would prefer library instruction that will help with your paper topic, select the major that aligns with your topic rather than with your declared major.
  3. If your paper topic and your major are in different fields, and you would prefer library instruction in your declared major, select your major.

Step 2: Check Emal

On Tuesday, July 11, after 5:00 PM, you will receive a notification email at your BYU student Outlook account (@byu.edu) with your workshop assignment and details on how to attend.

If a workshop could not be scheduled during the available times you indicated when you registered, you will instead receive a notification email with a link where you can choose an already-scheduled workshop or schedule a 1-1 session with a subject librarian.

If you need to change the major you selected so you can meet with a librarian in a different field, please email us as soon as possible at library_instruction@byu.edu.

To access your student @byu.edu account, do the following:

  1. Open the browser and navigate to outlook.byu.edu.
  2. Sign in with your NetID@byu.edu.
  3. Type in your NetID password and then respond to the Duo prompt.

If you registered and did not receive any notification email at your student @byu.edu account, please email us at library_instruction@byu.edu

Step 3: Attend

Workshops will be held between July 13-20.

If you cannot attend the workshop you were scheduled for, have no fear! Your notification email has instructions on how to choose a different workshop time or how to schedule a 1-1 visit with the subject librarian. Do this as soon as possible.

If you missed your originally assigned workshop, you will receive an email notification with instructions on how to choose a different workshop time or how to schedule a 1-1 visit with the subject librarian. Do this as soon as possible.

If you did not register by July 9, you can still sign up for a scheduled workshop or schedule a 1-1 visit with your subject librarian by going to instruction.lib.byu.edu on or after July 12. We recommend you don't wait to sign up; some workshops are held earlier in the workshop period than others.
