It is important for the viola performer to listen to many examples of the pieces they are learning: listen to the good and the bad examples! Doing this will make you artistically stronger and more sure of what you want in your own presentation of the music. Another good thing is that listening to many versions of a work helps you to be more creative, and establish stronger preferences for your own style, rather than following the tendency to copy the style of only one recording.
Use the lists on this guide as a directory of sound recordings that will help you to listen widely! Hot links will take you to the library catalog where you can place holds on desired recordings.
