Purpose

The purpose of this guide is to give you a brief introduction to the people and information resources of the BYU Family History Library.  If you would like to know more, please visit the greatly expanded family history resources at the web portal for the  BYU Family History Library

Welcome to the BYU Family History Library

The BYU Family History Library (FHL) provides a rich array of people, many online databases,  thousands of books and microfilms, and multiple digital scanners to help you with your family history research.  The area is staffed by an expert group of librarians, staff, student assistants, and missionaries who are ready to assist you.  The BYU FHL includes a lab of more than 60 computers loaded with family history software.

The BYU Family History Library provides free family history classes in a variety of formats designed to help all types of patrons from beginners to advanced researchers.  Free online webinars are offered that allow you to learn from family history experts without being required to go to the library.  Click on this link to see the current live webinar schedule and view past webinars https://sites.lib.byu.edu/familyhistory/classes-and-webinars/online-webinars/

BYU Family History Library Hours

  • Monday – Friday: 7:00 am to 12:00 midnight
  • Saturday: 8:00 am to 12:00 midnight
  • 1st & 3rd Sundays: CLOSED
  • 2nd & 4th Sundays: 10:00 am to 7:30 pm (unless the Sunday falls on a holiday).

Hours Research Help Is Available or Classes Are Given

  • Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • 2nd & 4th Sundays: 10:00 am to 7:30 pm
