You can place holds on items that are checked out and on items that are on the shelf.  Items on the shelf will be retrieved within 24 hours and held at Circulation for pickup. For more information about holds go to

Special & Digital Collections

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections offers access to primary resources and rare, one-of-a-kind materials on level 2 of the library. They also provide digital online access to some of their collections via the library website. Borrowing Material

BYU graduate students may check out up to 75 items for a period of 13 weeks, and renew items online two times. For more information about borrowing privileges and polices go to

You may check out materials at the main Circulation desk on Level 3 or at any Help Desk on each level of the library. There is also a self-checkout machine available on Level 3 next to the Circulation desk.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Request books and articles from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). In most cases you can make the request from the database or catalog you are searching in by clicking on the icon for ILL or "Get it at BYU."   Here's a link to the ILL site as well. Enter your BYU NetID and password when prompted.

Books are typically available for pick up within 5-7 business days.
Articles are typically ready to download within 2-3 business days.

Article Delivery Service

Article Delivery Services offers research assistance by scanning and sending PDFs of articles and book chapters from the HBLL directly to you via email.

Request articles or book chapters through the ILLiad website  and they will be sent to you via email within about 36 hours.
