Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been writers since the beginning of the Church. Early writers like Eliza R. Snow favored poetry, autobiography, biography, and letters. Emmeline B. Wells and Mary Woolley are other women writers that are part of the archives in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections. We also have 20^th century poets like Clinton Larson as well as fiction writers such as Dean Hughes, Orson Scott Card, and Doug Thayer.

Entering the 21^st century, we find the number of Mormon authors increasing rapidly. The Mormon Literature Database, under the direction of the Harold B. Lee Library, has made it simpler to research Mormon Literature topics. While the majority of LDS authors write for Mormon audiences, increasing numbers of authors write about Mormon and non-Mormon topics for general audiences.

We are committed to collecting manuscripts that reflect current trends in LDS literature. As new collections are acquired and processed, we look forward to sharing them with you.
