Strategies for Finding Additional Sources

1. Look for government websites for the country by customizing the search string below in Google or your preferred search engine.  Click here for a list of domains.

Basic search string:  statistics site:.[insert country website domain]

Add specific terms such as: central bank, industries, stock exchange, or production

2. Look for reports by consulting groups (e.g., McKinsey & Company, BCG, etc.), nonprofits, or educational institutions by customizing the search string below in Google or your preferred search engine.

Basic search string:  [insert country name] [insert industry or topic] report

Add website domain: site:[insert domain such as .org or .edu]

Add other relevant terms such as: nonprofit, research, survey, recommendations, consulting

3. If you cannot find data or information for a specific country, look for information from similar countries to create estimates or benchmarks for your country of focus.

World Bank API Script

Run this Python script to launch an interface to quickly and easily graph and export a wealth of international data from the World Bank.

  1. Download the most recent version of python.
  2. Install the required packages (i.e., wbgapi, pandas, matplotlib, plotly, tkinter).
  3. Save the code in a folder on your computer.
  4. Run the code using your preferred interface (e.g., Visual Studio Code).
  5. Use the menu options:
    1. Search Indicators: the variable you want to explore
    2. Fill in the country codes (WorldBank country code list)
    3. Fill in the start and end years
    4. Select Fetch Data
    5. Choose to plot or export the data
