LibGuides Guide: Getting Started: Publishing the Guide

Style guide for HBLL librarians to create and publish subject guides

Review & Preview

Once you have added all of your content and are ready to publish, there are still a few more steps that you need to take. Once these steps are completed, your guide will be "published" and will be listed on the main HBLL Subject Guides page.

Preview your guide:

  • To see what your guide will look like when published, click on Preview on the command bar at the top of the page.
  • The preview page will open in a new window.

Hopefully you will continue to regularly update your guides after they are published.

Change the Status of Your Guide

Change the status of your guide

  • Click on "Guide Settings" on the Command Bar at the top, and choose the status in the dropdown list for "Guide Publication Status":

Unpublished = visible only to logged-in users via their admin interface (use while drafting your guide)
Published = visible to everyone via the search and browse screens
Private =  visible only to people who know the URL

Give your guide a "friendly URL"

  • Click on Pencil icon on the "URL:" link
    • Enter a single word or words running together in the box. It will be appended to http://guides.lib.byu.edu as the friendly URL for the guide. Ex:   guides.lib.byu.edu/architecture
    • Use lower case

Assign your guide to a subject categories or Add Tags

  • If you select pencil icon for Subjects, it will link your subject guide to the main subject categories listed on the HBLL LibGuides main page. You can list it in more than one subject area. You may also add Tags by selecting the pencil icon next to that label.
