LibGuides Guide: Getting Started: Adding SFX links to Journal Titles

Style guide for HBLL librarians to create and publish subject guides

Adding SFX Links to Specific Journals

Journal titles can be linked within a LibGuides box, but they must be linked to the SFX URL intead of through a search in the Library Catalog. Follow these instructions to generate and capture the SFX URL and place it into a "List and Links" LibGuide box:

1.  Start on the HBLL Main page. In the bottom left section is the "Database & Journals" box. Click on the "Journals" tab and type in the name of the journal as illustrated below for the journal "Political Analysis" and click "Search."

2.  On the Source page, copy the SFX URL. It should begin with "http://sfx.lib.byu.edu/..."

3.  Once you have copied the SFX URL, go to the Subject Guide page that you want to add the Journal link. Within the Admin mode, click on the "Add New Box" link.

4. The "Add New Content Box" window will open on the screen. Choose the "List and Links" content box from the list of choices. Next, give the new LibGuides box a title and its relative position on the Subject Guide page. Click "Create Box".

5.  The newly created LibGuides box will appear on the Subject Guide page, but it will be empty because you have not added the SFX link information. Click on "Add a new Link" and an empty "Add New Link" window will appear.

6.  Within the "Add New Link" window, add a title for the link, and in the "Link URL" section, paste the complete SFX URL. You may also add a description of the journal, or resource, in the box below. The description will appear below the hyperlinked title in the finished LIbGuides box. Further information can be added by including information in the "more information" section. Patrons access this information by clicking on an information icon that will appear beside the title of the link on the finished LibGuides box.

When you have finished adding the essential information, click on "Create Link".

7. The finished product is shown below. The "Political Analysis" title is a hyperlink that will take the patron to the Journal Finder links listing the journal Political Analysis. The discription you previously added is placed below the hyperlinked title.
