LibGuides Guide: Getting Started: Creating Course Guides

Style guide for HBLL librarians to create and publish subject guides

Specific Course Guides

If you have created any course-specific subject guides (for a specific class), please note the following policy regarding the "friendly url" for these guides.

  • They must display the department abbreviation and course number according to the BYU Class Schedule online at http://saas.byu.edu/classSchedule/
  • The URLs are case sensitive (should be lower case) and should not contain spaces

If you created a course guide for a specific instructor, use the last name after the course number. These guides will now be automatically linked to all student accounts, based on their class schedules.

Only Course Guides need to be formatted as the examples below:

[dept. abbreviation]  [course number]  [instructor's last name]

Examples:

http://guides.lib.byu.edu/bio100

http://guides.lib.byu.edu/bio100nelson

http://guides.lib.byu.edu/hum201ancell

Students in Nelson's BIO 100 course will see a link to that course guide, but students in any other BIO 100 course (with no specific instructor) will be linked to the more general guide.

Note

These instructions are ONLY for subject guides created for a specific class, and not for general subjects.
